Somewhere in the great north
Under the eyes of God
Where the pitiless howl of the north wind,
Meets the celestial music of the Aurora
The indomitable soul of a young girl
And the sacred heart of a wolf
Beat together as one.
In the dark and silent forests of Alaska, near the Yukon River, Charley, a young half-native girl caught between two worlds, nurses the pup of a sled dog and a wolf back to health. Her love and devotion are returned ten-fold, as if the pup knows her faith in him saved his life. Charley falls in love with her dog “Auri”, named after the Aurora Borealis, and then raises him to become a great sled dog. She also becomes obsessed with dog sledding, and is determined to run the Junior Iditarod. Her mentor, Frank, a village elder, teaches her the old ways of a wilderness musher. Charley will be tested far beyond her worst fears, facing ice sink holes, charging moose, and harsh competition from her village nemesis, Victor. Her faith - in herself, in her dogs, in friendship, community and ultimately in God and the power of prayer - will see her and Auri through to the thrilling conclusion.
